words by Carlos Duarte

With a couple of fine EP’s already under his belt and appearances on projects by Disclosure and Ta-ku, Jordan Rakei has returned with not one, but two new singles this month, showcasing his charismatic, honeyed vocals and his ability to comfortably shift from genre to genre.

Serving as the first taste off his upcoming album, Cloak, ‘Talk To Me’ is flavoured with afro-beat stylings and Rakei’s signature velvety vocals. The track builds beautifully, opening with a sparkling glissando over afro-centric drums and culminating with brooding pad synths and percussion section.

‘Blame It On The Youth’ takes on a neo-soul vibe and serves as a cautionary anthem on the ills of today’s young people. Again, Jordan Rakei’s voice brims with a maturity and suaveness that few of his contemporaries possess, making the countdown to his debut an exciting one.

Cloak is scheduled for release on June 3rd through Kobalt .
