London duo Maribou State have just recently dropped their highly anticipated new album Portraits, featuring a ten-track collection of outstanding electronic tunes.

Maribou State are just about to hit the road across Europe and we had the chance to score some time with one-half of the project, Chris Davids, to ask where it all began for him.

“The first album I remember owning was Michael Jackson‘s ‘History: Past, Present & Future’ Double Cassette. An image of tape cover (Michael Jackson depicted as a statue) in a drawer under my fish tank has always been etched into my memory. I must have only been about seven or eight at the time, but I remember wanting to get the album after hearing the single ‘Earth Song’ on TV, oddly one of my least favourite tracks by him now but I think it was the video to the track that really resonated with me as child.

Sadly the cassette’s no longer in my possession, but I still constantly go back to listen to a lot of songs from the album. He’s always remained one of my favourite artists. I remember making a habit of rewinding the tape back to ‘Don’t stop to you get enough’, and that track’s still one of my favourites to this day. Over the years we’ve definitely played it one to many times in our DJ sets, but it still doesn’t get old.”
