Portugal’s disco-pop pioneer Moullinex released his highly anticipated second album last week, it’s called Elsewhere, and I eagerly added to my Top Albums of 2015 shortlist.

When I was asked if we’d like to chat with main-Moullinex-man, Luis Clara Gomes, I thought it the ideal opportunity to find out where his love of music began.

“My first CD was ‘Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness’ by the Smashing Pumpkins. I carried it with me everywhere I went, and have probably listened to it more than a thousand times. I was too young to “get” ‘Nevermind’, so the Pumpkins did it for me: raw fuzz, teenage angst, melancholia, pianos, underwater chords, d’arcy (the bassist).

Billy Corgan was a god to me: he wrote this double CD masterpiece and there are dozens of out-takes and bootlegs from the period which are equally great. Sad to see what he’s become these days, promoting Wrestling – despite all his rage, he’s still just a rat in a cage.”

See what he did there?

Check out the music video for one of Elsewhere’s singles, then go grab a copy of the album from iTunes – you’ll be very glad you did.
