Top Remixes of 2014

This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve had to make all year; culling over 1,000 remixes down to a manageable ‘Top Picks’ list…in the end the best I could do was 120.

So here they are in alphabetical order, acid stag’s Top Remixes of 2014, offering over 10 hours of the best remixes that have pleasured my ears over the last 12 months.

Top 10 Albums of 2014: Jez Ryan

The amount of music I listen to each year is enormous, so as you could imagine choosing my Top 10 Albums of 2014 is always going to be a really tough task. I base my decisions on how often I’ve played an album, how long I’ve had to bond with an album, and most importantly how an album makes me feel.

This year my number one spot goes to The Juan Maclean. Why? Because I find that whenever I don’t know what I am in the mood to listen to, I can put this album on and it just suits perfectly, every single time. Big ups to John Maclean and Nancy Whang once again for delivering such a great record.

1. The Juan Maclean – In A Dream
2. Caribou – Our Love
3. ODESZA – In Return
4. Hercules & Love Affair – The Feast Of The Broken Heart
5. TV on the Radio – Seeds
6. Kisses – Kids in LA
7. The Acid – Liminal
8. Flight Facilities – Down To Earth
9. SOHN – Tremors
10. Chromeo – White Women

Honourable Mentions: (in no particular order)
11. Sinkane – Mean Love
12. Andrew Wyatt – Descender
13. The Aston Shuffle – Photographs
14. MØ – No Mythologies To Follow
15. Low Roar – 0
16. Shit Robot – We Got A Love
17. Guerre – Ex Nihilo
18. Jungle – Jungle
19. Tensake – glow
20. SBTRKT – Wonder Where We Land | |

Ta-ku: Create & Explore 005 – Loston x Adam Borrello

Ta-ku‘s Create + Explore project is a conversation between mediums, birthed from his affinity for both auditory and visual creativity.

The fifth instalment of Create + Explore showcases two fellow West Australian creatives, photographer Adam Borrello and musician Loston, coming together for the first time drawing focus on a transition from urban sprawl into nature, and expressing the sense of isolation one can experience, no matter the location.

You can catch up on the previous Create + Explore editions via the official website. |

GAPS – She Bears A Flower [New Single]

Last month UK production duo GAPS released a beautiful music video for a delicate new single called ‘She Bears A Flower,’ a song that was written about the burden of being blessed with a natural gift.

This week they’ve uploaded that track to the interwebs for us all to stream and enjoy.

‘She Bears A Flower’ and b-side ‘We Are Here’ are available now through iTunes, thanks to Sexbeat Records. | |

Top 10 Albums of 2014: Antonia Gauci

author: Antonia Gauci

My Top 10 Albums of 2014 is largely made up of records which received “A (for Antonia)” rotation whilst driving around in my automobile. Full of production gems and wow factors, there is something to cater for your every mood.

Early Riser sits at the top because the listen count is somewhere in the ridiculous hundreds…and still growing. With guest vocals by Nai Palm, Robert Glasper, Emily King and his papa Bobby McFerrin, it does not disappoint.

1. Taylor McFerrin – Early Riser
2. #1 Dads – About Face
4. Warpaint – WARPAINT
5. Blake Mills – Heigh Ho
6. The War On Drugs – Lost In A Dream
7. Drowners – Drowners
8. St. Vincent – St. Vincent
9. Mac Demarco – Salad Days
10. Seekae – The Worry

Special mention to D’Angelo with Black Messiah. Only he could drop an album this late in the year, and blow everyone’s brains to pieces.

Single Sessions: Volume Thirty Five

Phil Beaudreau – Another Castle

VIMES – Ential

Her Habits – Faster Than Sound

KRNE – As Always

Kulkid – Let’s Love Baby

Ant Antic – Blood Sugar [New Music]

Say hello to Ant Antic, a Viennese production duo who are this week sharing their very impressive debut single, ‘Blood Sugar.’

Before forming Ant Antic, Marco Kleebauer and Tobias Koett were both involved in several projects as musicians or producers (so they certainly aren’t total newbies), and with the knowledge of those experiences they have been able to create a really unique style of electronic music.

With its warm analogue sound samples, a modern non-stop beat and pressing vocals, ‘Blood Sugar’ is a great introduction to the sounds of Ant Antic.

The boys are working on their debut EP, which we should see in the beginning of 2015.

Solidisco – Ready Look Choose [EP Stream]

From Buffalo, New York comes three delicious disco-fuelled tracks from Matt McGurn and Don Skotnicki, a production duo who have been making themselves known to the world as Solidisco.

Their latest EP, Ready Look Choose, showcases three of their latest dancefloor creations that will transport you back to the 70’s with their classic disco grooves, diva-esque vocals and timely horn sections.

Each track can be downloaded for free via the buttons above, and they will be the perfect addition to your disco playlist.

Top 10 Albums of 2014: Alex Milne

author: Alex Milne

2014 has been a great year of music, and putting together my Top 10 Albums of 2014 has been an absolute headache. The contest for first place was a close one between Jungle, Asgeir and Parra for Cuva.

The grooviness of Jungle pitted it just above the others though. The imagery of Asgeir beat Parra for Cuva by only a millimeter. Among notable albums that didn’t quite make the overall cut were Flight Facilities and Jack White – the competition was just too strong.

1. Jungle – Jungle
2. Asgeir – In the Silence
3. Parra for Cuva – Majoure
4. Bombay Bicycle Club – So Long, See You Tomorrow
5. Glass Animals – Zaba
6. Gorgon City – Sirens
7. First Aid Kit – Stay Gold
8. Alt-J – This Is All Yours
9. The Beautiful Girls – Dancehall Days
10. Chet Faker – Built on Glass | |

Austin Alex – Last Memory [New Music]

Introducing a singer, songwriter and producer from Texas called Austin Alex, a young newcomer who has reached out this week with his debut single, ‘Last Memory.’

On first listen I was intrigued, on the second I was impressed, on the third I was hooked on the woozy nostalgic production, 80’s guitar solos and Austin Alex‘s yearning vocal croons.

Austin Alex is prepping a debut EP for release in 2015, and ‘Last Memory’ is the first single to fall from it. Hit him up on the below socials to be kept up to date on his musical progressions. | |
