Naming your music venture ‘Great Good Fine Ok’ could work one of two ways; be seen as tongue-in-cheek for work that perhaps isn’t that great, or be incredibly self deprecating given what eventuated was nothing short of a stunning introduction to the industry. For Brooklyn duo Jon Sandler and Luke Moellman, they fall head first into the latter category.
Their four-track Body Diamond EP is lyrically charming and packed with Sandler’s effervescent, falsetto-laden vocals.
Opener ‘You’re The Only One For Me’ could well end up being my wedding song with lyrics like “I don’t mind growing old / I don’t mind asking why / When you’re here /By my side”. ‘Not Going Home’ is desperately determined and bouncier than anything Passion Pit have mustered, ‘By My Side’ is sensually-charged 80’s funk, whilst ‘Say It All’ seeps romantically dreamy synths.
Great Good Fine Ok have managed to pack each track with honest light and cocoons you in a warm embrace. This is a mighty fine and mature debut.
