Frames & Felix Lloyd: Pacifique [New Single]

Sydney producer Frames has been a busy boy over the last few months, and now is slowly beginning to share these new works/collaborations with us.

Late last week Frames delivered a tropical rework of ‘Pacifique,’ the classic title-track from French duo Deep Forest‘s album of 2000. Helping Frames out on this one is fellow Sydney beat-maker, Felix Lloyd.

‘Pacifique’ sees its release with two accompanying tracks, the warm housey vibes of ‘Overseas,’ along with the smooth, laidback grooves of ‘Lunar Lagoon.’

You can pick up a copy of the EP now from Beatport, thanks to Sweat It Out. | |

Jamie xx: Sleep Sound [New Single]

Jamie xx has dropped a new track called ‘Sleep Sound,’ the first of a double A-side release he has scheduled for distribution in May.

Featuring a soft, tropical hypnotic beat and a faint simplistic vocal sample, ‘Sleep Sound’ is a perfect example of Jamie doing what Jamie does best.

The double A-side single Girl / Sleep Sound will be available on May 5 through, Young Turks.

Harrison: How Can It Be (ft. Maddee) [New Single]

Take a listen to ‘How Can It Be,’ the latest single from a Canadian beat-maker known as Harrison, who has teamed up with a fellow hometown vocalist Maddee, for the release.

The beats on ‘How Can It Be’ are so damn infectious, I dare you not to hit that repeat button.

AQUILO: Part Of Your Life [New Single]

UK duo Tom Higham and Ben Fletcher, better known as AQUILO, are at it again, and by “at it” I mean they’ve produced another absolutely stunning piece of down-tempo, electronic bliss.

‘Part Of Your Life’ is the third single to fall from their forthcoming, self-titled debut EP, which will be available from iTunes next week on April 7. | | |

Scorpio Loon: A Night At The Library [New Single]

A new track from Scorpio Loon has surfaced called ‘A Night At The Library,’ bringing with it some fun indie-party grooves.

I need to start going to the library again…

Larry Alvarez is the man behind Scorpio Loon, who sadly is no longer with us. He locked himself away in his house for most of his life, writing and recording music, but never allowing anyone to hear it – not even his family!

When he passed in 2011, he left his entire collection to his family to do with as they saw fit, and very slowly, they are beginning to share those tunes with the world.

The first Scorpio Loon track they shared nearly 2 years ago, was ‘Addicted To You’

Flamingo: Heavy Steps [EP Stream]

Late last year we introduced you to the smooth beats of an electronic three-piece from Adelaide called Flamingo, with promise of more tunes on the horizon.

Well, those tunes have arrived and just as we expected, they sound so great. Next month they’ll be releasing a four-track EP titled Heavy Steps, which is laden with BonoboKilter and The Kite String Tangle vibes.

Flamingo‘s Heavy Steps EP will be available on April 21 through Jupiter Clique. |

Howler: World Of Joy [Album Review]

Words by Carlos Duarte.

Harnessing the raw energy of punk and garage rock, Minnesota’s Howler return with a rambunctious sophomore album that is sure to unleash everyone’s inner rebel.

From the get go, the energy the foursome exudes is electrifying, and for the most part, doesn’t let up. Once the dirty guitars on opener ‘Al’s Corral’ come to life, you find yourself entranced by an infectious riff and brash vocals that act as the ideal precursor to the insane pace of ‘Drip’. Here, the winning combination of fierce distortion and turbulent drumming makes for an ambience that is heavily reminiscent of 70’s punk.

Most of the tracks on World Of Joy run at just around the two and a half minute mark, boasting tight arrangements and song writing. First single, ‘Don’t Wanna’ shines thanks to a chorus that brims with defiant lyrics like “you don’t have to be anyone if you don’t want to, you don’t have to get that job if you don’t want to…” ensuring the rowdiness that on the record is maintained. Other highlights include infatuation anthem ‘Louise’ and ‘Indictment’, where the skills of new drummer Rory MacMurdo are emphasised nicely.

Clocking in at just under half an hour, World of Joy is a whirlwind experience that whisks you away to a place where loud and proud reign supreme. Not afraid to start a ruckus, Howler have presented an effort that gives you plenty of reasons to hit the replay button again and again.

Rating: ★★★☆

World Of Joy is available now, from iTunes.

Howler have just kicked off a massive UK, USA & CAN, World Of Joy Tour. Find those details here. |
