My First CD: Ben Plant, Miami Horror

Melbourne’s Miami Horror have been laying low overseas for sometime now but thankfully using that down-time to write a bunch of new material, two of which we have all had the pleasure of hearing recently – ‘Real Slow’ and ‘Colours In The Sky.’

Miami Horror have returned home and are currently on the road demonstrating this new material at a number of shows they have scheduled in around the country. Main-man Ben Plant took some time out of their hectic schedule the other day to tell us where his love of 80s inspired music begin.

The first CD that I took ownership of was from my parents collection. It was the Prince ‘The Hits/The B-Sides’ when I was about 8 years old. It was a huge triple box set which I still have hidden away in my bedroom cupboard. What I liked about it was that it was really fun and creative. Kids love personality and character and Prince definitely embodied those things. There were so many crazy sounds that myself and my younger brother had never heard before, as well as the many variations of vocal styles he does. It probably helped to inspire the upbeat colourful side of our music as well as the slightly theatrical element. Probably also a key reason I ended up loving so much ’80s music.

Speaking of personality and character, here is Prince with the 1991 classic, ‘Cream.’

Now let’s take a listen to ‘Real Slow’ by Miami Horror.

Miami Horror are currently on tour across Australia. Head over to their tour page for more details. | |

Bombay Bicycle Club: It’s Alright Now [New Single]

This week we saw London’s Bombay Bicycle Club release ‘It’s Alright Now,’ the next single to fall from their impending record, So Long, See You Tomorrow.

‘It’s Alright Now’ is a really infectious track, one that I feel vibes quite strongly on the styles and sounds of Jónsi‘s solo album, Go.

So Long, See You Tomorrow is out on February 7 but pre-orders are currently being accepted. |

PLOY: Liker [New Single]

American electro-beats duo Gil Wojcik and Justin Victoria, better known as PLOY, have served up the latest addition to their collection, a smooth down-tempo tune called ‘Liker.’

If you’re digging that one you’ll definitely be into the rest of their material. Check it out on the below socials. | |
