BIGSOUND LIVE 2013: Bands to Watch – Night 2 [Gig Guide]

Words by Hugh McClure.

Following on from our post yesterday, here’s a list of bands you shouldn’t miss out on seeing at night two of this year’s BIGSOUND LIVE.

The John Steel Singers – Bakery Lane (9:40PM – 10:10PM)
Possibly the band I’m most looking forward to seeing at BIGSOUND. The John Steel Singers’ colourful take on the pop-rock genre has been hugely missed over the past few years. The wait is over though, with a hometown performance at BIGSOUND marking their return.

Them Swoops – Alhambra Lounge (11:40PM – 12:10PM)
The Melbourne pop duo released their debut EP Glimmers earlier this year, with three ridiculously catchy singles announcing them as an exciting talent to keep yours eyes on.

Rainbow Chan – inthemix Stage @ The Rev (8:00PM – 8:30PM)
One of the most interesting talents in Australia, Rainbow Chan has announced herself to the wider public in recent months on the back of her Long Vacation EP. Her live show is always a pleasure to watch.

Mitzi – inthemix Stage @ The Rev (10:30PM – 11:00PM)
One of the finest purveyors of modern-disco, Brisbane four-piece Mitzi are impossible not to fall for. Make sure not to miss their stupidly addictive party-starters at the inthemix stage.

Willow Beats – inthemix Stage @ the Rev (8:50PM – 9:20PM)
Despite being a late addition to the BIGSOUND LIVE line-up, Willow Beats are hugely worthwhile participants. Their recent Alchemy EP has rocketed them into the spotlight, with singles like “Elemental” and “Blue” already 2013 highlights.

Also check out Gossling (Black Bear Lodge), Bored Nothing (Triple J Unearthed Stage @ Oh Hello), Major Leagues (Triple J Unearthed Stage @ Oh Hello), Jeremy Neale (Black Bear Lodge), and Grizzly Jim Lawrie (Press Club).
