Next month, Venezuelan-born singer-songwriter Devendra Banhart will release eighth studio album Mala.
“Mala” is reported to be an Eastern European term of endearment, similarly to “sweetie pie,” and is inspired by Banhart’s fiancée Ana Kras. The album was recorded at Banhart’s home in LA and co-produced with long-time friend and colleague Noah Georgeson. The duo played most of the instruments themselves, using borrowed equipment as well as a recorder they found in a pawn shop.
