The Flaming Lips & Bon Iver: Ashes In The Air [Record Store Day]

Record Store Day 2011 saw the release of fresh albeit elaborate tracks from the Flaming Lips. This year is shaping up to be as equally extravagant.

The Lips are releasing The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends which will feature contributions from musical heavyweights such as Erykah Badu, Neon Indian, Nick Cave, Bon Iver and Ke$ha. We haven’t got to the weird part yet. The album package will include the BLOOD of its collaborators.

Wayne Coyne told MTV: “I’m going to try to make a record that has every person’s blood in the record. I don’t have everybody’s blood just yet, but I collected quite a few vials of blood and it’s actually sitting in my refrigerator as we speak. I’m going to try to take that same concept and put little bits of everybody’s blood in the middle of this record. Like a glass specimen thing.”

Weirdness aside, listen to ‘Ashes in the Air’ – the Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) collab track that surfaced over night:
