The Philistines Jr.: If a Lot of Bands Play in the Woods… [The National]

Connecticut folk crew The Philistines Jr. have been recruiting a stellar cast of artists/bands to record covers and remixes of their 2010 album, If a Band Plays in the Woods…?.

The aptly titled If a Lot of Bands Play in the Woods… LP features reworks and remixes from the likes of Mates Of State, Jónsi and Alex, Mercury Rev, Frightened Rabbit, Tokyo Police Club, Tapes ‘N Tapes and The National among many others.

The Black Keys: Lonely Boy [Single]

Akron, Ohio’s finest blues-rock duo The Black Keys have announced the release of record number seven, El Camino. It’s the follow-up to 2010’s Grammy Award winning breakthrough LP, Brothers. The record features 11 tracks and was produced by the infamous American musician, songwriter and producer, Danger Mouse.

The album’s first single and vid has hit the interwebs, titled ‘Lonely Boy’:

Gigpiglet Presents: Live! @ GPHQ [Comp]

Sydney indie label Gigpiglet Recordings has been kicking around for 10 years now. During that time, the likes of Tim Finn, Alex LloydMachine Gun Fellatio and more recently RüFüS, have made beautiful music within their walls.

They’ve decided to give the studio a complete makeover in celebration of the 10th anniversary. They’re also running a series of very intimate monthly live music events for a select group of friends and industry professionals to showcase the latest material from local artists.

Each event will feature a 3-song performance from a different artist each month, an up-close-and-personal interview and top it all off, the entire event will be recorded live to create a 10 minute webisode. Of which, will be distributed online via and Gigpiglet.

The Live! @ GPHQ series kicks off on November 4 and will feature Sydney soul-pop muso Andy Bull.

If you like the sound of all that then you’ll be stoked to hear that we have TWO double passes to giveaway.

Flow Machines: Synchronise [Single]

Manchester electro crew Flow Machines are busy prepping the release of sophomore LP, Hi-Res. There is very little information available on these guys thus far and they are intent on keeping their identity a bit of a mystery. Wanky or clever marketing?

They are yet to play a live gig, be interviewed or even release a press photo. Instead, they have opted to focus their energy on studio projects – making and producing their edgy-pop sound as well as the odd remix from time to time.

Recently they dropped new single ‘Synchronise’ – said to come from their forthcoming LP:

Aeroplane: In-Flight Entertainment [Album Stream]

Over the last two years, Aeroplane has been selecting his favourite tunes of the month to form his monthly mixes – which we feature here relentlessly. These mixes gain a lot of attention quickly, with his Soundcloud page copping 30,000 to 45,000+ plays per mix.

Evolution has stepped-in and given birth to the Aeroplane: In-Flight Entertainment compilation record.

He’s teamed up with friends and producers from around the globe to put together a collection of never-before-heard tracks – some of which were produced exclusively for this album. It also features young upcoming producers/artists, giving them a little boost into the spotlight.

Cadillac: Self-titled Double 12" EP [Album Stream]

As reported last week, Sydney-based newcomers Cadillac are releasing a debut self-titled EP which features seven original tracks accompanied by six remixes from Miracles Club, Prince Rama and Sun Glitters.

Neil Young: The Bridge School Benefit Concerts [Arcade Fire Collab]

For 25 years, legendary folk singer/songwriter Neil Young has been curating benefit festivals for California’s Bridge School – a school for children with special needs. This year, he delivered an impressive line-up of indie rock musicians from around the world.

Highlight: Neil joining  The Arcade Fire onstage to perform a big-band rendition of his 1969 track, ‘Helpless’.

Sunless ’97: Illuminations [Single] [Fresh Meat]

London-based trio Sunless ‘97 are busy prepping for the release of debut EP Making Waves. Recorded over the recent English Summer, the EP is due out next month – the sound can be likened to that of the love-child of Beach House and Neon Indian.

Take a listen to ‘Illuminations’. It’s a gentle, electro-folk tinged number that is sure to get you in the Summer groove:

The UO Music Shop: Neon Indian [Promo Vid]

Hipster fashion/furniture chain Urban Outfitters is branching out into the musical arena this week with the launch of The UO Music Shop. They’ll be offering a range of instruments from brands such as Moog, Korg, Vox, and Pignose in the form of synthesizers, guitars, grand pianos, theremins and a selection of amps to add to the list of items already on offer (vinyl, headphones and turntables etc).

To celebrate the launch of their latest venture, they asked chill-wave producer/music maker Neon Indian to play some of the new instruments they now have available:
