Tokyo Police Club: 10 Days,10 Covers,10 Years [Covers Album]

American indie rock heads Tokyo Police Club have announced they’re undertaking a new project called 10 Days, 10 Covers, 10 Years. As the name suggests, it’s an album of covers that were originally recorded between 2001 to 2010.

First up is a cover of the Moby and Gwen Stefani collab from 2001 called ‘Southside’ with M83‘s Morgan Kibby on vocals.

Next is a rework of the Jimmy Eat World classic ‘Sweetness’ featuring Michael Angelakos of Passion Pit.

We then have The Strokes‘ ‘Under Control’ followed by a rework of Kelly Clarkson‘s ‘Since U Been Gone’, closing with a cover of the Queens Of The Stone Age hit ‘Little Sister’:

Balam Acab: WANDER / WONDER [Album Stream]

Balam Acab, AKA 20 year-old Alec Koone, has made available his upcoming full-length debut WANDER / WONDER for all to stream before its official release on September 6.

His tracks bear a resemblance to James Blake‘s dark-synth style however they’re much more abstract and subaquatic. Angsty teens will listen to the album with great relish as themes of loneliness and alienation are heavily weaved throughout. This aside it feels like a great deal of time and care has been put into the crafting of WANDER / WONDER‘s subtle beauty. Listen to it in full below:

WANDER / WONDER will be available September 6 via Tri Angle Records.

James Blake & Bon Iver: Fall Creek Boys Choir [Collaboration]

Something beautiful has happened. Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and British electro-synth artist James Blake have collaborated to produce the sweet sounding track ‘Fall Creek Boys Choir’. It premiered yesterday on BBC Radio One and features Justin on vocals and James on production. Listen to it below.

According to a press release, “Over the past year James has cited Justin as a key influence and it was via a chance meeting at this year’s SXSW festival in Austin, Texas that the seed was sown for a future collaboration.” The track was “formed in the spring over email.”

It will be available via iTunes on August 29.

Canyons: Circadia / Under A Blue Sky [Singles]

Ryan Grieve and Leo Thomson are Sydney-based electro-rock duo Canyons. The boys have finally announced the release of their debut LP, Keep Your Dreams. It was almost 10 months ago now when they dropped the epic jungle-rock track ‘My Rescue’ which went on to become a massive favourite amongst the indie and commercial circuits alike – not to mention being remixed to the hilt.

RüFüS: Rufus EP / Triple J Mix Up [Stream]

Jon George, Tyrone Lindqvist and James Hunt are Sydney’s own indie-electro trio RüFüS and, in our opinion, are doing some amazing things for the Australian music scene at the moment.

Back in January, the boys released their debut EP simply titled Rufus EP via their own label MONEKELEON. Check it out below:

The Weeknd: Thursday [Album Stream]

21-year-old Abel Tesfaye, the man behind moniker The Weeknd, returns with another mixtape – only five months after he first stunned bloggers with his sultry, RnB-synth croons. Thursday is part two in a three-part mixtape series. Follow-up, Echoes of Silence, is due out in our Spring.

The first half of the mixtape does round off the days of the week, quite a lot – almost reminiscent of Rebecca Black‘s ‘Friday’ in a less irritating fashion. Personally, we think it’s a tad tacky but we’ll let you be the judge.

Check out the entire Thursday mixtape below. Special mention of track ‘The Zone’ which features fellow Canadian Drake.
