Sigur Rós: White Light Festival

On November 15th, the Church of St. Paul The Apostle in Manhattan, New York hosted premiere performance pieces by two members of Sigur Rós and Alex Somers as part of the White Light Festival: Credo.  The first half of the night saw two contemporary pieces from Sigur Rós keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson titled ‘Cage a Swallow Can’t You but you Can’t Swallow a Cage’ and ‘Credo‘ performed by the Latvian National Choir, Hilliard Ensemble and the Wordless Music Orchestra. Then Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi Birgisson and his boyfriend Alex Somers (aka Jónsi & Alex) finished off the night with a selection of six tracks from their debut album of 2009 Riceboy Sleeps with the accompaniment of the above mentioned orchestras.

You can stream these performances now at WQXR – The Classical Music Station of New York. Starts at 9:40 min. It’s really quite amazing, perfect for a rainy sunday afternoon.
