My boys are coming down under and they’ve just finished their first album. I tell you, I’ve been waiting for this day for three years and I could not be happier!
I first discovered LA trio LANY on SoundCloud with their melodic sounds hypnotising me, and their lyrics seriously pulling at my heartstrings. vI’ve been so impressed by their growth over the past few years with various single and EP releases, but the track that has always left an impression on me was ‘ILYSB’ (aka ‘I Love You So Bad’).
With a song as tender as this one it comes as a surprise as to how violent the newly released video is, but I kind of get it. Lead singer Paul Klein in fact said:
“It would have been the least creative, most predictable thing in the world to run through a field and fly down the PCH in a convertible with the “love of my life” hand-in-hand, wind-in-hair. I had an opportunity to flip the script, to beautifully blindside the fan and the critic. I turned ‘ILYSB’ into a tragedy of unhealthy obsession and unrequited love that ultimately led to psychotic behaviour and total derailment.”
Yeah, what he said!
It is a beautifully shot video and actually shows the intensity of the lyrics, even if it is in a way that most fans weren’t expecting.
When I went to LA last year I actually met and interviewed these guys and let me tell you, they are sensational. We had many a laugh over a great chat and I could tell they were destined for big things.
