Dream collaborators Bonobo and Nick Murphy have this week released the visuals to their track ‘No Reason’, which is a trippy look into the ‘Hikikomori’.
Directed by Oscar Hudson of ‘Pulse Films’, this four-minute video is indeed more than just your typical music video. It’s intent is to show the balance of physical and psychological concepts, in a way very similar to ‘Alice in Wonderland’.
While the video is rather straightforward and shows how routine life can get, it does make you wonder if your own life is becoming a little bit stale. But, considering the idea behind Bonobo’s latest album ‘Migration’ is about his relationship to landscape and place on tour, it makes sense that the video for such a powerful track becomes a vessel for this.
“Whilst researching these themes I learnt about the Japanese phenomenon of the Hikikomori – young Japanese people who become so overwhelmed by the pressures of life that they retreat to their bedrooms for years at a time. This felt like a such a fascinating intersection of physical and psychological spaces, and so from this I set out to make a film that through an inventive physical concept tried to link environment directly to psychology.” – Oscar Hudson
It really is quite an entrancing video and one that will be remembered for its artistic concept.
