words by Jacqui Wonder

Mark Friday 3 April in diaries kids as the Easter bunny is bringing us all a present in the form of Shlohmo‘s second album Dark Red, and today we have for you the lead single ‘Buried’ – an intense, experimental trip to a parallel universe.

The track is an exploration in distress and pain, with the entire record being produced following Shlohmo losing loved ones close to him. In his own words, “[he] wanted the sound of the thing to be devastating and violent.” ‘Buried’ achieves that, with a slow but intentionally fierce evolution from distorted opening bars to loud, clashing, banging end.

Throughout the track I feel closed in, claustrophobic, anxious.. and by the end, oddly relieved. Shlohmo successfully challenges the listener to feel an intense range of emotion with this song, I cannot wait to see what the whole of Dark Red has in store for us.
