Prince, Miami Horror

My First CD: Ben Plant, Miami Horror

Melbourne’s Miami Horror have been laying low overseas for sometime now but thankfully using that down-time to write a bunch of new material, two of which we have all had the pleasure of hearing recently – ‘Real Slow’ and ‘Colours In The Sky.’

Miami Horror have returned home and are currently on the road demonstrating this new material at a number of shows they have scheduled in around the country. Main-man Ben Plant took some time out of their hectic schedule the other day to tell us where his love of 80s inspired music begin.

The first CD that I took ownership of was from my parents collection. It was the Prince ‘The Hits/The B-Sides’ when I was about 8 years old. It was a huge triple box set which I still have hidden away in my bedroom cupboard. What I liked about it was that it was really fun and creative. Kids love personality and character and Prince definitely embodied those things. There were so many crazy sounds that myself and my younger brother had never heard before, as well as the many variations of vocal styles he does. It probably helped to inspire the upbeat colourful side of our music as well as the slightly theatrical element. Probably also a key reason I ended up loving so much ’80s music.

Speaking of personality and character, here is Prince with the 1991 classic, ‘Cream.’

Now let’s take a listen to ‘Real Slow’ by Miami Horror.
